Nathalie Warren Awarded Holmquist Scholarship

Nathalie Warren, CWE Graduate Research Assistant
University of South Florida
Nathalie Warren, graduate student in the Master of Arts in Career and Technical Education (MA in CTE) program, was awarded a Holmquist Scholarship for $500 in support of her graduate studies. The Holmquist Scholarship is awarded to outstanding students in the Career and Workforce Education program at the University of South Florida with potential for making a difference in the field. In this regard, Nathalie has an excellent track record of academic achievement as demonstrated by a GPA of 3.6 on her Bachelor's degree completed at Syracuse University. Further, during her undergraduate studies she coached a team of teenagers from the surrounding neighborhoods and received the Syracuse University Chancellor’s Award for Public Service and the Syracuse Community Wide Dialogue to End Racism Racial Justice Award for that work.

Upon graduation she pursued a career in coaching as a College Prep Facilitator with Sponsors for Educational Opportunity to counsel scholars on their journey toward college education. She also served for several years as a site director for "Say Yes to Education" in the Syracuse City School District, where she worked within elementary schools initiating and implementing new ideas for enrichment programming. Later, she also served as Program Director with the Children’s Aid Society to implement systems and processes to run one of the largest after-school programs in New York City more effectively.

After years in this career path, Nathalie found out that the combination of technical and soft skills, along with the proper support, is what puts youth on the road to lifelong learning and gives them the capability to adapt to change. Thus, upon moving to Tampa, she enrolled in our MA in CTE program to learn about how to educate the community on the evolving needs of the current labor market and bring new ideas and resources about post-secondary opportunities and employability to school. Natalie has a earned a cumulative GPA of 4.0 since her enrollment in our program in 2015.

Given her consistent academic record and leadership potential in the field, the program faculty fully supported her nomination for the Holmquist Scholarship. Congratulations, Nathalie!
