Daniel Cox and Kristin Bowles-Pierce
Daniel Cox and Kristin Bowles-Pierce presented with Dr. Victor Hernandez at the 44th Annual Conference of the Florida Association for Career and Technical Education (FACTE), on August 5, 2010, in Clearwater, FL. Their presentation discussed important issues regarding program planning and implementation using career academy development initiatives in Volusia County as context   to illustrate key considerations. Dr. Hernandez initiated the conversation with an introduction of the underlying issues to be discussed. Cox and Bowles teamed up to highlight changes in the nature of work and the implications for program planning and implementation to address education-work-economy connections as part of planning processes. Drawing from systems theory, they pointed out the need to go beyond standard templates for implementation to make programs work locally. The presentation was well received and a productive discussion ensued featuring challenging questions connected to practice.
